Coming Up This Season at City Green!



Welcome to the 2024 City Green season! We have a jam-packed calendar of events that you won’t want to miss. Farm stands, garden workshops, volunteer days, family events—there's something for everyone to enjoy at City Green this season. We hope to see you there!


Bulbs in Bloom: See Spring in Action!  

Visit our gardens at City Green’s Clifton Farm Eco-Center between March 19th- April 12th and see the vast array of tulips, daffodils and other flowering bulbs in bloom! Bring your friends, family, and a camera to capture the first signs of spring. RSVP here to receive updates about which flowers are currently blooming. Open hours for visitation are Tuesday-Friday 9am-3pm.

 


"Ask a Farmer” Virtual Q&A Series  Already looking forward to the growing season? City Green’s virtual farmer Q&A series will help you get the most out of your garden this year! City Green’s expert farm team is here to answer all your questions about farming or gardening. These free virtual events are open to growers of all levels. RSVP on our website to receive the Zoom link on the day of the event.

Earth Day Festival  Join us at the City Green Learning Garden in Paterson’s Eastside Park on Saturday, April 20th from 11am-2pm to celebrate our beautiful planet! This free family event will feature kid’s nature crafts and games and guest attendees from other community organizations. Say thank you to mother nature by participating in our park cleanup, or learn how to make sustainable changes that protect the earth. Join Our Community Supported Agriculture Program!   A CSA is a great way to support your local food system! City Green’s 2024 Spring-Summer CSA will run for 23 weeks from June 5th to November 15th. CSA members pay in advance to receive a weekly bounty of City Green’s freshly harvested organic produce from our farms in Clifton and Mt. Olive. Click here for more information about the program. City Green’s Annual Plant Sale  Gardeners, mark your calendars! This year’s plant sale will be held on Friday, May 10th and Saturday, May 11th  from 10am-4pm. Shoppers can browse our selection of vegetable plant seedlings including tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, herbs and more! The event will be staffed by City Green’s own farmers, who can help you figure out which plants are best for your garden. To RSVP for Plant Sale notifications, head here. Open Saturdays  You asked, we delivered: City Green is now holding Saturday programming each month from May-October! Visit us between 10am-1pm to enjoy free family fun out in nature. Enjoy the outdoor space independently or participate in activities led by City Green staff.  

Open Saturday Dates:  May 18th at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center  June 15th at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center  July 20th at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center  August 17th at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center  September 14th at Eastside Park   October 19th: Harvest Festival at Eastside Park Volunteer With Us!  Looking for a way to give back to your community while enjoying time outdoors? Every Wednesday from April 17th -November 6th, City Green welcomes volunteers ages 13 and up to work on fun projects on our farms and gardens. Morning garden volunteer sessions run from 9am-12pm, and evening volunteer sessions on the farm from 5pm-dusk. Volunteer and Learn Workshops  On the dates below, join our Wednesday evening volunteer sessions at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center and learn from our expert farmers about a variety of farming and gardening topics. After the workshop ends, attendees will apply what they've learned during that evening’s volunteer activity. These workshops are free to the public. 

Workshop Dates  May 8th: Dirt Matters! At 5pm, join us for a special workshop alongside our volunteer session, during which our farmers will talk about the importance of soil quality and soil science on the farm. Register here. July 17th: All About Tomatoes! At 5pm, join our Director of Agriculture Henry Anderson as he tells us all about New Jersey’s favorite fruit! This workshop will run alongside our scheduled Wednesday volunteer session. After the workshop ends, volunteers will have a chance to help plant our tomato crop for the season. Register here.

 


City Green’s Farm Stands and Veggie Mobile Markets!  Farm stand season is the most wonderful time of the year! The Veggie Mobile is back in action starting June 4th bringing City Green’s fresh, local, organic produce to a city near you. Shoppers who use SNAP/EBT, WIC FMNP or Senior FMNP receive a 50% discount on fresh produce thanks to the Good Food Buck program! Please visit us this season at one of the market locations below: 

Tuesdays June 4th – November 12th  11am-3pm: Lou Costello Park, Paterson  3:30pm-6:30pm: Bloomfield Farmers Market at the Bloomfield Public Library 

Wednesdays June 5th- November 13th  3pm-6pm: City Green Farm Eco- Center 

Fridays June 7th- November 15th  10am-2pm: City Green Farm Eco-Center, Clifton 10am-2pm: Passaic City Hall, Passaic 

 


Adult Nature Workshops

This season, City Green is hosting fun and interactive nature workshops for adults at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center! Connect with others, discover a new hobby or craft, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of learning in a beautiful outdoor setting.


Workshop Dates

May 18th at 10am: Backyard Beekeeping, $25/person. Register here!

June 16th at 6pm: Flower Pounding, $25/person

July 25th at 6pm: Herbal Delights, $25/person



Farm Fest  Join us at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center for Farm Fest! Bring your own picnic, enjoy live music, and soak in the beauty of our farms and gardens in the summertime. Farm fest is the perfect way to enjoy an evening outdoors with friends and neighbors. This event is open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5/per family to support City Green’s events and programming.

Harvest Festival  Celebrate fall with City Green at our annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 19th from 11am-2pm! This family event is free to the public and will feature a pumpkin patch and pumpkin painting station, fall recipe tasting, kid's games and free-play areas, digging and gardening activities and more!  

 


Thanksgiving Market  Our Annual Thanksgiving Market is our favorite way to end the harvest season on a high note! Held this year on November 24th from 11am-3pm at the Clifton Farm Eco-Center, this festive farmer’s market will feature dozens of local vendors selling delicious holiday treats such as pies, breads and baked goods, mushrooms, honey, coffee, beer and more. This event is a wonderful opportunity to support small local businesses, and the last chance for shoppers to stock up on City Green produce for the winter!
