Growing Strong

The Mission of Growing Strong is to provide paid summer employment to high school students from communities in Paterson and Clifton, enhanced by a youth development program that ensures college and career readiness. By working in an urban farming and market enterprise or educational garden camp program, interns positively engage with their community; benefit from purposeful mentorship and peer collaboration; and foster a personal connection to food systems, healthy eating, and the environment.

The Growing Strong internship program is open to students currently enrolled in 9th-12th grade, and who live in Paterson or Clifton. The program spans eight weeks in the summer from June through August. In addition to daily job tasks and responsibilities, crew members participate in youth development and skill-based workshops on topics including sustainable agriculture; organic gardening; and best practices for college and career readiness. Interns should look forward to working with children and adults to make a positive impact in their community by being stewards of City Green’s overall mission of good food for all!

This paid internship opportunity includes uniform shirts, a veggie share, and lunch for each day of work.  Please note that due to COVID19 safety precautions, transportation cannot be provided between Paterson and Clifton, and group workshop times have been minimized for this year.  Interested applicants should select the Crew Member role they are most interested in and the job site they can have reliable transportation to and from.  Additionally, note that job responsibilities include working outdoors in nature for the entirety of the program.
