About the Event

Learn how honey is made, and get expert advice about beekeeping at home from an experienced Backyard Beekeeper. This workshop is aimed at those who might benefit from a primer before committing fully to the hobby of beekeeping. With so much information to sift through, beekeeping can seem intimidating. Geoff will help you learn the basics and answer your questions so you can feel confident and informed.

This workshop will cover:

  • Getting started: equipment, costs, logistics, certification
  • Planning/prepping for the first season
  • Managing expectations
  • Mite/pest management and treatments
  • Swarm management
  • Honey collection
  • Winterizing your hives

About Geoff: After graduate work in CA and post-doctoral work in NC, he  landed in NJ. He currently works as an Assoc Director at a Neuroscience-based contract research firm, doing pre-clinical studies of CNS diseases for NFP organizations and Pharmaceutical companies.  Geoff has been moonlighting as a hobbyist beekeeper for 6 years (after sitting on the fence for at least that long) and loving every minute of it.
