This past fall, 22 Passaic County groups planted flowers, shrubs, trees, and more as part of the Dig In! Tree, Bulb, & Native Perennial Grant program. A partnership between Passaic County and City Green, this program offers municipalities and community groups the opportunity to participate in county-wide greening and planting through the distribution of "plant grants." Groups can apply for and receive plants to create native pollinator-friendly gardens, native trees for urban greening, or daffodils for community beautification. The grantees then go about planting within their own communities.
Throughout the years, City Green has provided gardeners with hundreds of thousands of daffodil bulbs, thousands of native plants, and hundreds of native trees. Houses of worship and after-school centers are planting daffodils on their lawns, community centers are getting butterfly gardens for all to enjoy, and municipalities are participating annually and planting dozens of trees and thousands of daffodils in public areas. The collective impact of this program has made every corner of Passaic County greener, more sustainable, and more beautiful through the amazing, collaborative effort of these community groups and municipalities.
In the latest round of Dig In! Tree, Bulb, & Native Perennial Grants, 4 Passaic County municipalities and 18 community groups, including four schools, received plants, totaling 25 trees, 7,000 daffodil bulbs, and over 700 native perennials. This season’s recipients are:
