About the Role
City Green is seeking a Summer Crew Leader to supervise and serve as a mentor to a crew of three high school interns working at City Green’s farm or garden camp programs for children aged 6 - 10. Crew leaders responsibilities will include: acting as a lead educator at the garden camp programs and implementing the City Green curriculum, supervising their team of interns, and supporting the overall maintenance of City Green’s garden sites via planting, weeding, watering and harvesting the food produced in the garden.
There are two different positions open for this job: Farm Camp Crew Leader and Garden Camp Crew Leader. Both positions will be very similar, however Garden Camp takes place at the City Green Learning Garden in Paterson’s Eastside Park and the Farm Camp takes place at the City Green Farm-Center in Clifton.
Requirements & Qualifications
Additional responsibilities include:
Organization and preparation of all materials needed for daily camp programming
Regular review of City Green curriculum to ensure successful implementation of camp programs.
Facilitate Crew Member transportation using City Green vehicles
Cultivate healthy relationships between crew members and local community stakeholders
Engage crews through implementing team building activities, workshops, and games
Complete daily reports including crew timesheets, progress reports, incident forms, and any other workplace documentation
Collaborate with the team of Crew Leaders to ensure all crews are successfully participating in and completing the program throughout the summer
Motivate and inspire the Growing Strong interns to work hard, grow, and succeed in personal and professional goals
Ensure crews uphold the guiding principles, philosophy and standards of the City Green Growing Strong program
Qualifications:
Some experience mentoring and supervising high school-aged youth
Direct experience leading or supporting camp or educational programming for young children.
High energy and a consistently positive attitude
Basic knowledge in agriculture and/or gardening
Comfortable with physical labor outside in the summer heat
Ability to motivate a group of young people.
Ability and willingness to drive City Green Vehicles, such as a pickup truck and mini-van.
A valid driver’s license for at least 12 months and a clean driving history
Hours and Compensation
This position will include approx. 16 - 20 hours of work a week between June 19th - August 18.
Compensation: $15 hour
