Community Garden Grant for Municipalities

There are TWO types of Municipal Community Garden Grants:

1) New Community Garden Grants for first-time applicants

2) Returning Community Garden Grants for applicants who have been granted in previous years

Grant Funding Available

First-time Applicants ​

Funding of up to $5,000 with a 50% in-kind match.

Second-time Applicants ​

​​

Funding of up to $2,000 with a 50% in-kind match. 

Multi-Year Applicant (3+ years)

​

Funding of up to $1,000 with a 50% in-kind match.

Grant Timeline

First-Time Applicants ONLY:

  • Letter of Inquiry Submission Period: July 1st - September 25th, 2026

  • Site visit and application invitation period: September 25th - November 20th, 2026

 

All Applicants (First-Time and Returning):

  • Application deadline: December 11th, 2026

  • Grant award notification: Late January, 2027

  • Grant delivery: March - May 2027

  • Grant report deadline: November 2027

Grant Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated with special attention to the following categories:

​

1) Capacity for Food Production

2) Community and Municipal Engagement

3) Project Sustainability  

 

Returning applicants will also be evaluated on project success demonstrated through garden photos and participant testimonials.

First Time Applicants: The submission period for Letters of Inquiry is now closed. Please check back in July 2027 for the next application period for new community garden projects.

Returning Applicants: Returning Community Garden Grants for Municipalities are Now Open Until December 11th
