Join us for City Green's School Garden Symposium! Learn the tips & tricks for building and sustaining successful school gardens with City Green's School Grounds team and experienced local teachers and administrators.

Welcome to the Symposium!

9:00 am - 9:25 am

Meet our presenters and fellow attendees, and discuss the question, "What is success in the school garden?".

Option A - A Garden for the School Community

9:30 am - 10:20 am

Learn how to make your school garden accessible for your school's community with Paterson Teacher, Patrick Cecala. Discuss garden barriers and brainstorm ways to engage the school community in the garden. 

Option B - A Garden as a Classroom

9:30 am - 10:20 am

Learn how to use your garden as a tool to support student learning with Bogota Teacher and City Green Board Member, Cornelia Geraghty. Discuss different lessons, activities, and ways to use your school garden as part of your curriculum. 

Cooking & Tasting in the Garden

10:30 am - 11:15 am

Learn how to safely prepare food grown in your school garden. City Green staff Emma Latham, Miranda Madrazo, and Kevin Murphy will demonstrate food safe gardening and harvesting practices, and will conduct a garden salad cooking demonstration.

Group Discussion Tables

11:30 am - 11:55 am

Join educators from similar teaching environments to discuss the successes and challenges of your school garden.

Sustaining & Assessing Your Garden

12:35 pm - 1:35 pm

Learn the characteristics of successful school gardens with Paterson Science Teacher Coordinate, Maureen Bruins. Assess your school garden, identify your goals, and plan the next steps to achieve them.

Getting to the Farm Eco-Center

The City Green Farm Eco-Center is located at 171 Grove Street in Clifton.

Our parking lot is currently under renovation. Please park on Grove Street when you arrive for the event.
