About the Role

The Community Garden Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of community greening efforts and the Dig In! Community Garden grant program by providing ongoing support, technical assistance, educational opportunities, material procurement and grant administration to participating Dig In! partners in Passaic County, NJ. The Community Garden Coordinator will coordinate or implement educational garden workshops and community garden events to foster knowledge sharing, celebration and community collaboration across the program network. The ideal candidate will have a warm, engaging disposition to foster positive relationships with diverse groups of community gardeners and community members, and will have solid gardening experience to support community members as they start and maintain successful gardens or greening projects. The candidate will have responsibilities in administration, event coordination, education, and on-the-ground community engagement and garden projects.

Starting salary is $42,000

Requirements & Qualifications

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate outreach and recruitment for Dig In! and New Ground programs

  • Dig in! Grant administration, delegation, application processing and reporting

  • Conducting in-person garden site visits and creating intentional partnerships with community organizations.

  • Ongoing in-person, phone, and email communication with active Dig In! Garden partners

  • Coordinate with production staff on new garden installment and repairs

  • Assist with building new gardens

  • Coordinating with municipalities for greening projects and community gardens

  • Procuring and distributing garden elements itemized in grant packages and selected by partners (ie. Plant material, trees, water assistance, signage etc)

  • Hosting and coordinating gardening workshops for participating community groups and/or organizations

  • Coordinating and facilitating community garden events (ie. End of season potluck, garden conferences, Paterson Garden Contest)

  • Ongoing data collection and reporting of the program

Additional Responsibilities for all programs include:

  • Fostering and maintaining positive relationships with partners throughout programs

  • Maintenance of records and files for contacts and program materials

  • Support for printed materials (flyers, newsletters, reports, etc.)

  • Support maintenance and updates of of annual production schedule

  • Procuring materials within organization guidelines; manages expense reporting

  • Timely and professional communication with collaborating staff and outside program partners

  • Participate in “All Hands On Deck” activities, where all City Green staff cooperate on a large project, event, educational program or volunteer day

  • Support initiatives and programs throughout the organization as needed

  • Be prepared to represent City Green in a variety of situations with partners, guests, funders, government officials, other stakeholders, and community members

  • Adhere to City Green’s principles and policies

  • Adhering to City Green’s policies and practices around diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Be prepared to support interdepartmental events activities

  • Follow organizational policies and standards for safety and liability
