Community Gardening

Helping to grow over 650 pounds of fresh food each summer while establishing green space in the city, providing opportunities to interact with nature, and enabling community collaboration.

Youth Programming

Our City Green Learning Garden in conjunction with our growing number of satellite youth gardens, rounds out a comprehensive approach to inspiring young people to learn, engage in their community, take care of themselves and their neighborhoods, and understand, respect and care for their environment. We currently serve over 800 inner city youth from 6 - 17 years of age.

School Programming

City Green facilitates student driven Environmental Clubs, helping to spread awareness, education & appreciation of the environment through club activities. City Green also offers school garden expertise to help create an outdoor learning lab for investigation and study in the natural world and to support food systems education.

Horticultural Therapy

Providing meaningful and purposeful activities while encouraging individual growth and cultivating positive connections with nature.

New Programming:

Curriculum Expansion: For our School Grounds program City Green is building out a professionally written, comprehensive “School Garden Manual” connected to the NJ Core Curriculum Standards and including valuable cross-curricular extensions. We have created a “Dirt to Table” curriculum that is being instituted at all of our after school and summer youth garden projects.

Urban Agriculture: City Green is leveraging vacant lots and community enthusiasm to build a sustainable food system with greater food production and greater access to fresh healthy food, while providing leadership opportunities and inspiring positive change in the communities we serve.

City Green Greenhouse: In an effort to become more self sustainable and to enhance existing educational and community programs we are opening and maintaining a greenhouse.

Expansion: City Green has been proudly serving the Paterson area for the last 5 years and is in the process of extending our reach to some nearby cities. Look for us next in Jersey City ... and maybe one day soon in a city near you!
