Plans are underway for the construction of a beautiful “Storytime Garden” at The Paterson Public Library on Broadway. City Green has already sponsored a very productive raised bed vegetable garden at the library, gardened by local families. This new garden will offer lots of seating for story time and other educational events, while being surrounded by small trees, flowering shrubs and perennials, and fragrant herbs. This is a community project, so stop in the library to see how to participate! For more information please contact us at (973) 800-8197 or info@city-green.org
New this fall, City Green is running an Environmental Justice workshop at School 7. This enrichment program is giving motivated students an opportunity to explore their local environments, learn about the human-nature connection, and participate in a service learning project. Upon completion, participants will be awarded and Environmental Justice program certificate at an awards ceremony with school administrators and parents.
Also at School 7, City Green is continuing to work with our “Junior Wildlife Gardeners” to help them become certified gardeners, as they work to certify their habitat garden through the National Wildlife Federation http://www.nwf.org/gardenforwildlife/ . Upon completion these students will be awarded “Junior Wildlife Gardener” certificates at an awards ceremony with school administrators and parents.
Kids at the YWCA are learning about healthy eating! Using the City Green sponsored vegetable garden as a learning tool, City Green is conducting a “Nutrition in the Garden” workshop with children from the YWCA’s after school program. Children are picking fresh food, discovering new fruits and vegetables, and exploring why it’s important to eat healthy fresh foods.
