Wonderful News!

THE CITY GREEN LEARNING GARDEN:


The City of Paterson and the Parks Department have given City Green

permission to build a permanent Learning Garden in East Side Park!


The DPW has generously offered their support; and excavation of the 90’ x 90’ garden

has already begun! The garden was professionally designed by JSL Greentree, a

landscape architect with over 40 years experience who has donated her time, skills

and experience to the project.

What is a Learning Garden?

A learning gardens is a garden that is created with education and creativity in mind.

It is a place for children to be in nature, to learn about cultivating plants, explore

their environment, and to participate in exciting educational activities that spark

the imagination. It is a wonderful city resource for the youth and their families,

for schools, and for local camps.


Who is City Green partnering with?

  3. Paterson Public Schools

  4. Eastside Neighborhood Association


What will be in the Garden?

  1. Flower Gardens

  2. Composting

  3. Vegetable gardens

  4. Bird and Butterfly Habitat Gardens

  5. Native plantings

  6. Fruit trees

  7. Hands on Activity Areas

  8. Learning Stations

  9. Winding Paths for exploration

  10. and contemplation


What will the Garden be used for?

  1. School Visits and Educational Programming

  2. Camp Visits and Educational Programming

  3. Teacher Training for teachers interested in starting

  4. City Green sponsored school gardens

  5. Environmental Education

  6. Workshops for Backyard Gardeners

  7. As a Resource for Local Families

  8. Youth Development Programming such as

  9. apprenticeships and ambassador training
